“The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart.” Robert G. Ingersoll

by Dr. Sam Hazledine | Aug 24, 2011

So I’ve just got back from Australia where I was at Mt Hotham racing in the Intercontinental Cup.

In both races I got through to the quarter finals and was then knocked out. In the second race I did finish well enough to qualify for the World Cup, which is the stepping stone to the 2014 Olympics, but to race World Cup they average your points over your best two races, so I still need another good finish.

This was very disappointing not to qualify from my first two races back racing professionally, but I’ve always said that it’s not what happens in our lives that is important, it’s what we do with what happens that makes the difference.

I have the most important race of the season on Friday, the Winter Games. This is now my opportunity to qualify for the World Cup.

So, this is what it’s all about, one chance to make it happen, racing against the best in the world. I’ve tasted the pain of defeat, now it’s up to me to create the sweet taste of victory.

I’m doing this for my daughter Zara to show her to follow her dreams, it’s always worthwhile.
