We’ve realised something lately here at MedRecruit, and it’s profound. You better sit down. Ready? ‘Doctors are people’. Wow.
We’re serious though, and that’s because doctors seem to be ‘owned’, and not by themselves. They are owned by the public health system or government, they are also owned by Joseph or Josephine Bloggs, the ones who say they pay your doctor salary with their taxes and subsidise your education. Everyone believes they know what’s best for the doctor and more importantly, what’s best for society and what doctors are obligated to do to provide this.
Do you think anyone would care if a computer programmer was earning squillions? Of course as a doctor, you are earning squillions aren’t you? No one cares how many hours a computer programmer works, how much they earn, or if their clients are happy or otherwise. They also put in leave applications and take holidays when they want too. That’s because they are private individuals. But doctors aren’t, or are they?
Society insists on dehumanising doctors, with ‘shoulds’ (and should not’s). You should stay in the homeland. You should do your job to serve others (and we know you do because you choose to). You should not be interested in financial success (we won’t use the dirty word – money). Is making doctors feel obligated and boxed in the only strategy society has to keep doctors in the public health system?
The heartening news is that you’re reading this, and you’ve got the opportunity to join MedRecruit. Maybe you are a person first, and a doctor second, we certainly believe you are. Maybe you are considering taking the opportunity to secure your financial future, and refresh yourself with variety in your work and lifestyle and enjoying quality relationships with those who matter.
Isn’t that what people do?
