  • How much will it cost to get myself ready to work in New Zealand?

    There will be some one-off costs associated with relocating to New Zealand and getting yourself ready to work in a GP job.  MedRecruit will negotiate on your behalf to get some of these costs reimbursed by your new employer once you arrive.  Make sure you talk to your Solutions Specialist about our Deloitte accounting consultancy offer, because some of your establishment expenses may be used as a tax deduction.  General costs associated with establishing yourself in New Zealand and with a GP job may include:

    • Visa application fee
    • Immigration x-rays

    • Translation of documents if they are not in English originally

  • Will my qualifications be recognized in NZ?

  • Will I need to complete an English language test to work in New Zealand?

    All applicants for registration must satisfy the NZ Medical Council that they are able to comprehend and communicate effectively in English in the medical workplace, as one of the prerequisites for registration.  There are many facets to this, and the policy for English Language requirements for the Medical Council of New Zealand can be found on their website.
  • How long will it take to get registered in NZ?

    The registration process for Overseas Trained Doctors is variable. A general registration application can be processed in 20 working days; however a vocational registration application can take 6 months. Factors influencing the time frame and the process include where you trained; your post graduate qualifications and your experience.   • Will there be any restrictions placed on where I can work in NZ?

    No! You can work in any location you like.
  • What sort of income should I expect to earn in NZ?

    In a full time permanent doctor job you can expect to earn between $120,000 - $180,000 (NZD) per annum.
