Medical Registration

To be eligible for work as a senior locum doctor in Australia you must have either General or Specialist registration with AHPRA.  You will also need to have full residency in Australia, or be a New Zealand citizen.

Specialist Pathway

If you are a senior doctor and you wish to locum in Australia as a consultant you need to be a fellow of the Royal Australasian College

You are then eligible to have your qualifications assessed by the equivalent Australasian College. They will then determine what (if any) additional requirements they wish you to undertake to gain fellowship in Australia.

Generally speaking, if you are a specialist in the UK, Ireland, Canada or the United States, then you will be eligible for registration as a full specialist in Australia.p>
