Dr Rowan McSwan, General Practitioner

In early 2010, I decided that I would spend 18 months or so working as a locum GP in Melbourne while my wife completed her anaesthetics training program. I had just obtained my FRACGP and was keen for a change in the type of practice I was working in, as well as looking for a good work/lifestyle balance.

My previous experiences with locum agencies during my RMO years were highly variable, to say the least. I contacted several agencies to discuss my needs and the availability of work. Most of the agencies had few GP placements available and weren’t that interested in actively seeking positions. Of those who had available GP work, everyone was keen to get me started in a job, but it seemed that any position would do and more often than not, the positions suggested weren’t even close to the type of work I was looking for.

Enter, MedRecruit. I had received a brochure in the mail and hadn’t ever heard of them. However, having not had much joy with the bigger outfits, I called them. From that first phone call, MedRecruit was really interested in listening to what I wanted, both in terms of work and lifestyle. They then set about finding the right position for me.

The registration process was easy and mostly done online. Responses to emails were always prompt and provided useful information. Rochelle, my contact person, has always been helpful and available and has worked hard to put me in the right practice. Dealing with her is a pleasure.

Submitting timesheets, receiving payments and all the other administrative aspects of my work with MedRecruit have been simple and seamless. MedRecruit negotiate excellent rates, and the Reward Points program is a real bonus.

Initially, I took a three-month contract, but have decided to continue for a further twelve months. This is a reflection of the work they put in to find the position that met my needs. To any doctor who is considering contacting an agency to assist with placement, either permanent or shorter term, I would recommend MedRecruit without hesitation.
