Who we are

Meet the team who specialise in helping doctors GO FURTHER!

Dr. Sam Hazledine, Managing Director

Sam founded MedRecruit in 2006 with the clear and passionate vision of improving the lives of all doctors in Australasia. Sam graduated from Otago Medical School in 2003. After starting work as a doctor he saw how many of his class mates and colleagues were becoming disillusioned with medicine while some were doing things differently and loved it. Sam decided to go locuming in Australia to join the ones who loved it! After experiencing a number of different recruitment agencies Sam realised that doctors deserved much better; they deserved a partner to assist them to realise their goals, dreams and ambitions, so in 2006 Sam founded MedRecruit. Sam’s passion, energy, and enthusiasm for partnering with doctors has seen MedRecruit grow rapidly; MedRecruit was named the fastest growing Business Services Business in the Deloitte Fast 50. Sam continues to be passionate about improving the lives of all doctors in Australasia, about partnering with doctors to let them know it’s okay to dream and to assist them to achieve their dreams. Sam lives in Queenstown with his wife Claire, their daughters Zara and Florence, and their dog Ernie. Sam is a New Zealand extreme skiing champion and also loves water skiing, surfing, and mountain biking.

Claire Hazledine, Co-Pilot

Claire was instrumental in assisting Sam to start MedRecruit and to launch it across Australasia. Claire has an extensive background in media and communications and graduated from Otago University with a BA then gained her post-graduate diploma in journalism at Massey University in Wellington. Claire left a public relations career in order to assist Sam in bringing what they see as a fantastic opportunity to as many doctors as possible. Claire is also a keen skier and is currently a full-time mother to their daughters Zara and Florence. She still assists MedRecruit with PR and media relations.

Ernie Hazledine, Mascot

Ernie is the Hazledine’s staffy and likes to think of himself as MedRecruit’s mascot. He’s always up for an office visit to lift the team’s spirits, and to check the rubbish bins for food! Ernie’s passions include going for walks around his kingdom to make sure all is well, helping Sam run MedRecruit and sneaking into bed with Claire and Sam on cold nights.

Henry Edney, Business Manager Australasia

Originally from the UK, Henry arrived in New Zealand in 2007 and joined MedRecruit soon after, becoming MedRecruit’s first employee.  Henry is based in MedRecruit's Gold Coast office, and worked in the New Zealand office until late 2011. He is responsible for business development and managing the Solutions Specialist teams in both Australia and New Zealand.  He is passionate about helping doctors GO FURTHER in Australasia and providing an exceptional service to the hospitals who need them.  As an avid sportsman, when not at work you will most likely find Henry hitting the ball rather well on the tennis court or trying to find his ball on the golf course.

Bree Cook, Business Development Executive

As the Business Development Executive in our Australian office, Bree is responsible for growing new business as well as amplifying relationships with existing Hospital and GP Clinic clients.

Bree works closely with the MedRecruit team to identify key clients to bring on board, so we can ensure we have the best range of jobs possible for our extensive database of doctors.  Bree also works with existing clients to ensure MedRecruit in-depth understanding their needs, so MedRecruit continues to make the best job-match between doctors and clients to ensure both parties are satisfied.

Prior to joining the team at MedRecruit Bree practiced as a nurse for Healthscope, before a change of career into marketing and advertising with Sensis Yellow Pages.

Outside of work, Bree enjoys spending time with her husband and three beautiful children and friends - usually on one of the beautiful Gold Coast beaches.

Mike Voyce, Marketing Manager

Mike is MedRecruit’s Marketing Manager. He has over 16 years' marketing experience, which he claims does not make him old, just wise. Mike believes marketing isn’t rocket science; it’s really just a matter of getting others knowing, liking and trusting you more. Originally from Auckland he moved to Queenstown seven years ago for a lifestyle change and never looked back. Continuing to develop his marketing experience and challenging himself are very important to him, but not nearly as important as spending awesome amounts of time with his wife Mandy and two children Harry and Emily. When not at work (or mowing the lawns) you’ll find him mountain biking, skiing, hiking or camping with his family in what he believes is one of the world’s most amazing places – Queenstown.

Anna Pettigrew, Communications Manager

Anna is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies to improve internal and external communications. She has vast integrated marketing and communications experience; from strategy development to campaign management and delivery. Working closely with Mike, Anna oversees our marketing campaigns, media relations and internal communications and implements strategies to promote MedRecruit. She ensures the MedRecruit team are equipped with the necessary information to carry out their jobs effectively.

Given the slightest opportunity you’ll find Anna making the most of Queenstown’s amazing natural playground by heading into the hills for a touch of running – particularly the downhill variety, or hitting the slopes. When not out and about, you’re likely to find her cooking up a storm for friends and family while enjoying a glass of delicious Central Otago Pinot Noir.

Corina Sommerville, Human Resources and Service Manager

Corina is MedRecruit’s Human Resources and Service Manager. Corina’s passion for business is focussed around people, and she believes that just as important as the doctors we work alongside, are the team within MedRecruit that provide awesome service. She strongly believes that our success in helping doctors achieve their dreams hinges on everyone within MedRecruit having the opportunity, the tools and the support to provide genuine assistance at every opportunity. Corina brings a wealth of experience from her previous management and leadership roles, across a number of industries including finance, recruitment and adventure tourism.

Corina says the best thing she ever did was leave city life in Auckland eight years ago, for the wonderful outdoors lifestyle in Queenstown. Corina is very happily settled in Queenstown with her husband, their young daughter and McKenzie, their chihuahua. When Corina is not in the office, she can usually be found with her family out mountain biking on a trail somewhere in Queenstown, or hitting the slopes.

The lure of the Coast was just too much and she is extremely happy to be back. Sahra’s most previous work experience has been in recruitment for marketing firms, however the majority of her work history has been in personal finance. The moment she met with the MedRecruit team and discovered our values and passion for what we do, she knew MedRecruit was perfect for her.

Sahra enjoys snowboarding and wakeboarding as well as making the most of the stunning Gold Coast beaches. She prides herself on great customer service and is always looking to find the very best solution for her clients.

Sarah started her career in childcare, which she enjoyed, but after four years decided that she would prefer working in an office environment and became a legal secretary. Sarah loved her time as legal secretary and stayed at the same firm for close to five years. She learnt a lot about the legal system and this experience helped her to cultivate her into a strong administrator. Sarah then moved to Brisbane City, from the Gold Coast, to become a Recruitment Coordinator. However she decided her heart remained in the Gold Coast and has recently relocated back.

When not in the office you can find Sarah on one of the Gold Coast’s fine beaches, swimming and working on her tan. She also loves a good night out dancing the night away with friends.
